I was recently visiting Tasmania, a place I had never visited before, and in truth it had never really held much appeal. I think because I have spent many years traveling extensively throughout NZ, and being Tasmania is renowned for it’s similarities, my story, 'so why go'. Hmm... after one week exploring… I feel in love with this land... and it inspired me to share some personal insights and reminders for Greatness.
I share my story shortly, in the meantime here is an overview of the 9 Reminders to live in your Greatness - Present, Connected, Alive and Free!
"It's so easy to get caught up in life that we forget to live life".
So in short my intro paragraph brings the first two reminders to light...
(Reminder 1). Never-say-never. Who knows what is beyond our story and the roadblocks we create through limiting thoughts, feelings and beliefs.
(Reminder 2). Preconceived ideas are just that, pre-conceived. We have no idea past a conceptual idea until such time we dive in to find what may lay before us.
One of the many adventure took me to MONA - The Museum for Old and New Art. It was an experience to say the least. What really stood out to me was the elements of pushing the edge, art displays of what have been taboo topics (and quite frankly still are). And for those who have been there you know what I mean when I say not just in a subtle way, more like a full out in your face kind of way. Displays of human anatomy up close and personal!
As you wander through MONA you are given a device and earphones educating you on the art. ‘Art Wanks’ are the descriptions given which tell you about the artists and the inspiration for their work. This from the human poo-machine artist (yip, taboo poo, no I'm not kidding!):
“I used to feel inhibited about crossing invisible lines into advertising, design, the decorative arts and architecture, but now I know that we artists can go as far as we want into the real world…”
(Reminder 3). Expression is freeing, we are all artists, in the grand design of our life’s masterpiece. Take a leaf out of this artists book and break the rules! Life is just too damn incredible to play small!
(Reminder 4). Life is about getting real. What makes us human is not something to be ashamed of, it is to be embraced.
Whilst I feel I unplug and take time out from the busyness trap, let’s get real, as a business owner, flying solo we never truly unplug. I think the same can be said for most of us, we just have varying disguises that have us get caught up in the ‘doing’ in life.
There is something to be said about truly stepping away and unplugging. Not checking emails, or replying to messages, or feeling any sense of obligation to anyone or anything else... just being with the most important aspect in my life – YOU!
(Reminder 5). Take time away from the busyness trap. Seriously, no more excuses, you need to get lost!
It amazed me as I traveled with my dear friend Timothy, how everyone automatically assumed that we were either a couple or married. Not once was there question of our connection, just assumption. And we have a beautiful story of friendship to tell.
(Reminder 6). Don’t make assumptions – seriously. Get curious about life, ask questions.
On the day of the walk to the mountaintop at Freycinet National Park I had a dodgy tummy and was concerned that on the walk there were no toilets, but damn it I wanted to go (sharing and embracing my humanness moment). . The day was so perfect, as we sat at a café looking out the mountain and she called to me. I had to get out of my own way!
(Reminder 7). Get out of your own way. Sometimes we just need to get out of our own way, out of our heads and into the greater aspects at play - Our heart, for she is a great connector to life force.
As we climbed the path to reach the stunning Wineglass Bay lookout , I was amused at how many people were there to capture their photo and head done the mountain again. It felt as if they had achieved their goal and now on to the next thing, missing the connection and incredible gift before them. Very few people stopped to take in this glorious land.
(Reminder 8). This moment is all we have. We spend far too much time looking to what next, and in doing so we disconnect from the here and now. Remember to breath in life.
I was in awe. My inner child was out to play. There was a sense of mystery, excitement and playfulness abound. I let her loose, man does she know how to have fun – what pure delight! On the walk back down the mountain I connected into the sense of freedom, I ’flew’ down that mountain high on life!
(Reminder 9). Loose the seriousness. Find your joy! Whatever that is, find it within you. Life is just so much more magical when we let our inner child play, when we let out light shine, when we allow ourselves to be BIG and come alive. Be warned, it’s totally contagious!
